From/to Osaka Kansai international airport
Kansai airport is perfectly connected both with Osaka and Kyoto by JR
(Japan Railways), while the private railway company Nankai
offers a handy connection directly with the heart of Osaka: Namba station.
The fastest service offered by JR is the "Haruka
" train, with half-hourly frequency, which stops at Osaka Tennoji
station (30 minutes, 2100 yen), Shin-Osaka
station (50 minutes, 2800 yen), and lastly at Kyoto
station (70 minutes, 3500 yen). All seats are reserved.
You can also get tickets with no-reserved seats (risking to remain standing) paying something less (saving a few hundred yen).
The slower and cheaper JR alternative, and more frequent (every 15 minutes), is the JR Airport line
, that makes several stops including Tennoji station
(50 minutes, 1000 yen) and Osaka station
(70 minutes, 1200 yen). The seats can't be reserved and the carriages could become very crowded.
If you want to go to Namba station with the JR (but I don't recommend it, it's better to take a train of Nankai railways to Namba), the shortest solution is to get off at Tennoji station and there take the Midosuji subway line (3rd stop from Tennoji, 7 minutes - 230 yen).
If you have to go to Kyoto
and you don't want to spend 3500 yen of Haruka train, you can take the JR Airport line until Osaka station (70 minutes, 1200 yen) and there take the JR Kyoto line
to Kyoto station (28 minutes, 540 yen - totally from the airport to Kyoto: about 100 minuti, 1740 yen).
Nankai Electric railways
The Nankai private railway company offers a good alternative to everyone who has to go to Namba
, and this is quite probable if you are turists because it is the most "central" area in Osaka.
Taking the train called "Rap:t
" you arrive directly at Namba station
in 35 minutes, the ticket costs 1400 yen. All seats are reserved.
As JR, Nankai also have a slower and cheaper alternative, and it costs only 900 yen (the cheapest way
to reach Osaka from Kansai airport): the Nankai Airport Express
line (every 30 minutes), that takes you to Namba station in 45 minutes. Seats are not reserved.
The company operating connections by bus from Osaka Kansai airport to various cities and back is the Kansai Airport limousine
To reach Osaka, there are buses departing every 20/30 minutes to Namba (1000 yen, 50 minutes) and Osaka station (70/90 minutes, 1500 yen) as well as in some other places including some hotels.
A bus to Kyoto takes 100-130 minutes and costs 2500 yen.
For all cities served directly and more information visit their english official website
, their buses go also to some famous tourist towns like Nara, Himeji, Wakayama.
If you are not very rich do not consider this idea.
Kansai Airport is located on an artificial island and is quite far from Osaka and even more from Kyoto, a taxi ride costs about between 15.000 and 20.000 yen to Osaka.
